Poulnabrone Dolmen meaning ‘hole of sorrows’ is located in the Burren, Ireland.
The Tuatha de Danann, the Shining Ones or fairy folk placed the remains of
their ancestors here using rituals and ceremonies. They were able to contact the spirit world to ensure the fertility of their crops and livestock, giving honour to the sun, moon and stars which gave them life.
It is estimated that the portal tomb was established around 4200 to 2900 BC. In 1985, the portal was excavated and 22 adults, 6 children and a newborn were found buried underneath. Personal items such as ‘crystals‘, weapons and pottery were found with the bodies.
